Bedford County is horse country, with Shelbyville at the center and small towns like Wartrace, Bell Buckle and Normandy around it. We roof farmhouses, brick ranches and newer homes on the edges of Shelbyville, and we’re used to roofs with barns and outbuildings next to them. Every job starts with a free inspection from our own crew.

Bedford County at a glance. County seat: Shelbyville. Based in Murfreesboro since 2010. About 72 minutes from our Nashville shop. Our own crews, never subcontractors. Veteran-owned by Navy Combat Veteran Don Hane. A-rated with the BBB. Open 24 hours, every day.

Do you need a permit to replace a roof in Bedford County?

In unincorporated Bedford County, a roof covering replacement usually doesn’t need a permit. When the county adopted the 2021 residential code under Resolution 25-11, it added an exemption for “roof covering replacement that does not involve replacement of roof decking or framing.” If we have to replace decking, a permit is needed.

The county has enforced building codes since 2007. Shelbyville and Wartrace handle their own permits. County permits: 931-685-1336 or [email protected].

What storms have hit Bedford County roofs?

Hail is the big threat. On May 8, 2024, the National Weather Service logged 2-inch hail near the Shelbyville airport. Hail that size cracks ordinary shingles and dents gutters and metal roofs.

On April 5, 2017, an EF-1 tornado touched down southwest of Shelbyville. Spring lines of storms come through the county most years, which is why so many of our Bedford County customers ask about Class 4 shingles.

What are homes like in Bedford County?

Bedford County has a lot of country homes and older housing. The Census median year built is 1990, about a third of homes were built before 1980, and about one in nine is a mobile or manufactured home. About three in four homes are single-family houses, and about seven in ten are owner-occupied.
