Roofing Company in Columbia, TN

What kind of roofs do we see in Columbia?
Columbia has some of the oldest homes we work on, alongside some of the newest. The West End neighborhood around West Seventh Street has homes from the 1800s through the early 1930s on tree-lined streets, many with steep roofs, old board decking, and box gutters that were never built for modern shingles. Close to downtown, the city’s historic districts add design rules on top of that.
As you head out Hampshire Pike, Bear Creek Pike, and toward Spring Hill, the housing turns into newer subdivisions with production-built shingle roofs. Some of those homes are only a few years old.
That’s why we approach every Columbia roof differently. On older homes, we check the decking, rafters, and chimney flashing closely before we price the job, because that’s where the surprises hide. On newer homes, most early leaks come from flashing and ventilation, not the shingles.

We were extremely pleased from the start with Don and team from Roof Troops Roofing. Communication is very important to us, and he replied to our initial online inquiry the same day, came to evaluate our gutter damage from an ice storm the next day and work was completed within a week. Team was on time and courteous of our property, and price couldn't be beat. We will happily use them in the future.Posted on Google![]()

The guys at Roof Troops were amazing from start to finish. I was impressed with their proposal and the information that they taught me during our initial meeting. We wanted upgraded shingles with a specific design, and they were able to accommodate our needs. They really took care of our landscaping and architecture, which we really appreciate. We will be informing our neighbors about all of our fantastic experiences with Roof Troops Roofing

What storms have hit Columbia roofs?
The biggest was the May 8, 2024 EF-3 tornado. According to the National Weather Service, it touched down along the Duck River east of Columbia with winds near 140 mph. It tore large sections of roof off homes along Cothran Road, Cranford Hollow Road, Old Highway 99, and Blackburn Lane, then crossed I-65 near mile marker 47. One person was killed and 12 were injured. In late March 2025, NWS surveys confirmed more tornadoes in Maury County, including an EF-1 south of Columbia and an EF-2 near Mount Pleasant.
In January 2026, a trained spotter in Columbia reported 0.5 inch of freezing rain, among the heavier totals that NWS Nashville logged during the ice storm. Ice that thick on old hardwoods brought down limbs across town.
We document every bit of storm damage with photos and give you a written repair estimate. If you file an insurance claim, you can submit those with it, and if you’d like, we’ll meet your adjuster on the roof. See storm damage repair and our emergency roofing page if you’re dealing with an active leak.

Do you need a permit to replace a roof in Columbia?
Inside city limits, permits go through the City of Columbia’s Building Codes department. In a Columbia historic district, there’s one more step. You need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Zoning Commission before the city will issue a building permit. Columbia’s historic district design guidelines require keeping the roof’s shape and pitch and using materials that suit the house’s age and style. We’ll help you gather the product specs and photos for that application. Homes outside city limits go through Maury County.

Columbia roofing questions
Can I put a metal roof on a historic Columbia home?
Not always. Inside a historic district, the Historic Zoning Commission decides. In at least one 2022 case, city staff recommended asphalt shingles instead of standing seam metal on a contributing cottage. We’ll show you options that fit before you apply.
Is an hour too far for a roofer?
Not for us. We respond within the hour, we’re open 24 hours, every day, and we plan Columbia jobs so most shingle roofs take about 1 day on average.
My older Columbia home has box gutters. Can you fix them?
We’ll inspect them as part of a roof inspection and tell you whether they can be repaired, relined, or should be replaced. See gutter installation and repair.
