Maury County mixes old and new like few places around here. Columbia has historic homes near the square and brick ranches from the 1960s and 70s, Spring Hill has thousands of homes built since 2000, and Mount Pleasant, Culleoka and Santa Fe are mostly rural. We roof all of it with our own crews, and every job starts with a free inspection.
Do you need a permit to replace a roof in Maury County?
We don’t assume either way in Maury County. The Building & Zoning Office enforces the 2018 codes, and we couldn’t find a published rule on the county’s own site about whether a residential re-roof needs a permit, so we call the office before each job. It’s in the Walter Harlan Building at 5 Public Square in Columbia (931-375-3002).
Columbia, Spring Hill and Mount Pleasant handle permits inside their own city limits, and we check with them for homes there.
What storms have hit Maury County roofs?
On May 8, 2024, an EF-3 tornado with winds near 140 mph touched down along the Duck River east of Columbia and tracked about 12.5 miles northeast, crossing I-65 near mile marker 47. The National Weather Service found large sections of roof torn off homes along Cothran Road, Cranford Hollow Road, Old Highway 99 and Blackburn Lane.
Less than a year later, in late March 2025, NWS surveys confirmed an EF-1 south of Columbia and an EF-2 near Mount Pleasant. In the January 2026 ice storm, a trained spotter measured half an inch of freezing rain in Columbia.
What are homes like in Maury County?
Maury County’s homes split two ways. The Census median year built is 1994, about a quarter of homes were built in 2010 or later (much of that in Spring Hill), and about a third were built before 1980. About seven in ten are single-family houses, and about seven in a hundred are mobile homes, which need different roofing than a site-built house. Roughly seven in ten homes are owner-occupied.
