Tornadoes and straight-line wind in Lebanon
On March 3, 2020, the same tornado that devastated Mt. Juliet crossed Highway 109 into Lebanon. According to the National Weather Service, it weakened to EF-2 and damaged dozens of homes and businesses across the south side of the city, then kept going east along I-40.
The May 8, 2024 storms brought straight-line winds up to 85 mph to the Taylorsville area north of Lebanon, snapping trees and damaging outbuildings, and caused flash flooding along Lovers Lane. On March 25, 2021, a brief EF-0 tornado touched down near Nashville Superspeedway and damaged outbuilding roofs before lifting near Cedars of Lebanon State Park.
The common thread is wind across open ground. Homes on exposed lots east of town and near the state park take the full force of storm lines, and ridge caps and roof edges are the first to lose their seal. A shingle that lost its seal may still be in place, but it will lift in the next storm. We hand-check ridges and edges on Lebanon storm inspections and photograph every lifted or creased shingle. Outbuilding roofs damaged in the same storm can go on the same estimate.
Roof damage on open Wilson County lots
Lebanon’s newer subdivisions and the farms east of town are often on open land, with few trees to break the wind. That’s good for falling limbs, but it means storm lines hit those homes at full speed. The May 8, 2024 storms brought straight-line winds up to 85 mph to the Taylorsville area north of Lebanon.
On open lots, wind damage starts at the roof edges. Ridge caps lift and crack, shingles along the rakes lose their seal, and the windward slope can lose whole sections. We hand-check the ridges and edges on every Lebanon storm inspection, because unsealed shingles that are still in place will blow off in the next storm.
Around the historic square and Cumberland University, the damage pattern is different. Older trees drop limbs, and older roofs with board decking can take punctures. We inspect for both patterns, depending on where your home is.
What we do after a storm
On open Lebanon lots, we lift-test shingles along every ridge and rake, because unsealed shingles look normal from the ground.
We’re open 24 hours, every day for emergency tarping. The storm inspection is free and covers every slope plus the gutters, vents, and flashing that show hail size. You get dated photos and a written estimate you can submit with a claim, and if you’d like, we’ll meet your adjuster on the roof. Our own crew does the repair, backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty.
Will insurance pay for storm damage in Lebanon?
Wind damage on Lebanon’s newer homes is often limited to ridges and edges, which keeps repairs small. Wider damage gets a replacement estimate instead. Coverage is between you and your insurer, and we won’t promise an outcome; you or your licensed public adjuster handle the claim. We never waive deductibles. Paying out of pocket? A full shingle replacement on an average home usually runs $12,000 to $16,000, and financing is available. See insurance claim assistance.
Lebanon permits after a storm
Inside Lebanon city limits, storm repairs go through the Building Inspection and Permitting office (615-443-2839) and its GeoCivix portal when a permit is needed, typically for decking or framing. Routine shingle, ridge, and flashing repairs usually don’t need one. We confirm before we start. Watertown and unincorporated Wilson County addresses go through the county or that town.
Lebanon is about 40 minutes from our Murfreesboro base. After a big storm line, call early, because inspections fill up. We’ll tarp active leaks first and schedule inspections in the order we get calls. If you have outbuilding damage from the same storm, like the barns and sheds that took the May 2024 winds near Taylorsville, we can inspect those on the same trip.

Can you inspect my barn or shop roof after a Lebanon storm too? Yes. We inspect and repair metal and shingle roofs on outbuildings, and we can put house and outbuilding damage on the same written estimate.
My Lebanon roof lost a few ridge caps. Is the rest okay? Maybe. Wind that takes ridge caps often unseals nearby shingles too. We lift-test the edges and photograph what we find.
