What storms have hit Hendersonville roofs?
On December 9, 2023, an EF-2 tornado crossed Old Hickory Lake near the dam and moved through Hendersonville, generally along and parallel to Main Street. The National Weather Service found EF-1 to EF-2 damage to dozens of homes and businesses and hundreds of trees down. Along Overlook Circle, a whole grove of trees was snapped or uprooted. The tornado continued into Gallatin.
Ice was the problem in January 2026. NWS reports showed about 0.5 inch of freezing rain in Hendersonville, enough to drop limbs from lakefront hardwoods onto roofs. During the May 2024 storms, flash flooding closed roads at Stop Thirty Road and Drakes Creek Road and along Indian Lake Boulevard.

Do you need a permit to replace a roof in Hendersonville?
Inside city limits, permits go through the City of Hendersonville’s Building and Codes department at City Hall (615-822-3802). The city takes applications by email at [email protected] and publishes its own roofing requirements based on the 2018 code. We’ll check what your job needs, pull any permit required, and build the roof to those requirements. Homes outside city limits go through Sumner County.

It can be. Moss holds moisture against the shingles, and debris in valleys slows drainage, which leads to leaks. We’ll tell you whether it needs cleaning, trimming, or repairs, or whether the roof is near the end of its life.
Was my roof damaged by the December 2023 tornado even though it looks fine?
Maybe. Wind can break shingle seals and crease tabs without tearing them off, and you can’t see that from the ground. If you live near the tornado’s path and haven’t had an inspection, it’s worth one.
