Straight talk from a Navy veteran

Don Hane served two tours in the U.S. Navy, including Desert Storm. He has been roofing Middle Tennessee since 2009 and has more than 4,160 projects behind him. In Thompson’s Station, that experience mostly means one thing: knowing the difference between a roof that needs a few shingles and a roof that needs replacing, and telling you which one you have.

Open land, full sun and a lot of wind

Thompson’s Station was a railroad stop until it incorporated in 1990. Most of its homes went up since then on former farmland in communities like Tollgate Village, Bridgemore Village, Canterbury and Fields of Canterbury, with older farmhouses along Thompson’s Station Road and Critz Lane. Few mature trees means roofs take full sun and wind all day, which wears out south and west slopes faster and strains shingle seal strips. On a 10 to 15 year old roof, we check for unsealed tabs, ridge cap wear and loose exhaust vents.

On June 19, 2019, the National Weather Service surveyed two microbursts here and in northern Spring Hill, with pockets of wind up to 80 to 85 mph. Trees came down on Critz Lane and Buckner Road. Wind damage like that often isn’t visible from the driveway, so we walk or fly the roof and photograph what we find. You get a written report you can send with a claim, and the claim stays between you and your insurer.

Permits and HOAs

The Town of Thompson’s Station Building and Codes Department handles permits through its online portal. We confirm whether your job needs one and pull it if it does. Most of the planned communities here have HOAs, so plan on architectural review. We’ll give you the product and color to submit before anything is scheduled.
