Roof inspections

Is a roof inspection really free?

Yes. Our roof inspections are free for any homeowner in our service area, with no obligation. You get drone photos, an attic check when we can reach it, and a written estimate if anything needs work. Learn more about our free roof inspections.

How long does a roof inspection take?

Most residential roof inspections take around 1 hour, depending on the size of the roof. We never rush it.

Do I need to be home during the inspection?

No. As long as we can get to the roof, and the attic if needed, we can finish the inspection without you there. We send you the photos and go over the findings by phone or in person, whichever you prefer.

What does a Roof Troops inspection cover?

The whole system: shingles, flashing at chimneys, skylights, vents and valleys, ridge and hips, gutters and drainage, soffits and fascia, and attic ventilation when we can reach the attic. You get photos of every issue we note.

When should I schedule a roof inspection?

After a hail or wind storm, before you buy or sell a home, when your roof is more than 15 years old, when you see a ceiling stain, or when you find a lot of shingle granules in your gutters.

Will you try to sell me a new roof if I only need an inspection?

No. If the roof is fine, we tell you it’s fine. If it needs a repair, we say so. If it needs replacing, we explain exactly why and give you a written quote with no obligation.

Can you inspect a roof before I buy a house?

Yes. Pre-purchase inspections are one of the most common things we do. You get a detailed condition report and a realistic picture of how much life the roof has left.

What hours can I book an inspection?

Inspection appointments run 9 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week. For an active leak or storm damage, call 615-258-9977 any time. We’re open 24 hours, every day.

Storm damage and insurance

Do I need to file an insurance claim before I call you?

No. We recommend getting an honest inspection before you call your insurer. That way you have accurate documentation going in, and you don’t file a claim for something that turns out not to need one.

How do you help with a roof insurance claim?

We inspect the roof, photograph the damage, and give you a written repair estimate you can submit with your claim. The claim itself is between you and your insurance company, or a licensed public adjuster if you hire one. Once your claim is approved, our own crew does the work. See insurance claim assistance.

Do you negotiate with my insurance company?

No. We never negotiate claims or settlements. We document the roof damage accurately and do the repair right. Questions about your coverage go to your insurance agent or a licensed public adjuster.

Do I still pay my deductible?

Yes, you pay your deductible on every approved claim. We never waive, absorb or rebate a deductible. If paying it up front is a strain, you can finance it through Acorn Finance.

What does homeowners insurance usually cover on a roof?

It depends on your policy. In general, insurance covers sudden damage from events like hail, high wind, fallen trees and wind-driven debris. Normal wear and age generally aren’t covered. Your policy and your agent are the final word.

Will insurance cover storm damage on an older roof?

Damage from a specific storm is generally covered regardless of roof age, though older roofs may be depreciated in the payout. What matters is whether the damage came from the storm. Your agent can tell you how your policy pays.

What size hail damages a roof?

Hail one inch or larger typically causes functional damage to asphalt shingles. Smaller hail can still damage older shingles that have lost granules. We look for impact marks and granule loss, not just hail size.

How soon should I call after a storm?

The sooner the better, because water moves fast once it gets past the shingles. If you’re not sure whether your roof was hit, call and we’ll come look. The inspection is free. See storm damage repair.

Financing

Do you offer roof financing?

Yes, through our financing partner Acorn Finance. It’s a lending marketplace with more than 20 lenders, so you can compare real offers side by side. See roof financing.

Will checking my rate hurt my credit score?

No. Prequalifying through Acorn Finance is a soft credit check with no impact on your score. A hard inquiry only happens if you choose a lender and move forward.

Is financing approval guaranteed?

No. Roof Troops is not a lender, and neither is Acorn Finance. Each lending partner reviews your credit and makes its own decision.

What can I finance?

A full roof replacement, a metal roof, storm repairs insurance won’t fully cover, your insurance deductible, emergency repairs, and add-ons like gutters and ventilation.

Does Roof Troops lend the money?

No. We connect you to lenders through Acorn Finance, and they fund the loan. We get paid for the work, and you pay the lender over time.

Do I need an estimate before I apply?

It helps. With our free written estimate in hand, you know exactly how much to request. You can also check your options first to see what’s available.

Roofing materials

Which shingle brands do you install?

We’re certified installers with GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, TAMKO and Malarkey. Certification means we install to each manufacturer’s spec, which is how your material warranty stays valid.

What roofing material is most common in Middle Tennessee?

Architectural (dimensional) asphalt shingles. They’re thicker than 3-tab, resist wind better, and usually last about 25 to 30 years here. We also install metal, tile, slate and cedar shake, plus TPO and EPDM on low-slope roofs.

Is a metal roof worth the extra cost?

It depends on how long you plan to stay. Metal costs more up front but can last 40 to 70 years, about two to three times as long as asphalt, so the cost per year of roof life is often lower. See metal roofing.

Is a metal roof loud in the rain?

Not when it’s installed over solid decking and underlayment. The noise difference from asphalt is minimal. The “tin roof in a rainstorm” idea comes from old barn-style installs with no solid deck.

Do you install Class 4 impact-resistant shingles?

Yes. Our crews install Class 4 shingles from the manufacturers we’re certified with, and they prefer Malarkey Vista AR for its algae resistance.

What sealant do you use?

A roof-grade tripolymer sealant on every repair and every installation. We often find roofs where a prior company used regular silicone, which cracks and falls apart around pipe boots and vents.

Do you lay new shingles over my old roof?

No. We tear off the old roof every time. It’s the only way to see and fix the decking before the new roof goes on.

Timing and the install

How long does a roof replacement take?

About 1 day on average, tear-off and installation included. Larger, steep, metal or tile roofs can take longer, and weather or decking repairs on a change order you approve can add time. We give you a realistic schedule up front.

What happens on install day?

Expect a dumpster or trailer in the driveway early, tarps over your landscaping, and our own crew on the roof by morning. On most homes the old roof is off and the new roof is on by evening. We never leave a roof open overnight, we magnet-sweep the yard and driveway for nails, and we walk the finished roof with you.

What happens if you find rotted decking?

We stop and show you photos. Any decking that needs replacing is handled by a written change order you approve, and the new roof only goes on a solid deck.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof?

Usually not for a straight reroof in Murfreesboro, Smyrna or unincorporated Rutherford County, which generally exempt roof covering replacement when the deck and framing stay. If we find rotted decking or rafters that must be replaced, a permit can be required, and we pull it. Rules vary by city, so we check yours.

Can I stay home during the work?

Yes. Roof work is exterior work. You don’t need to be home, though we’re glad to walk the finished job with you.

How fast can you respond to a leak or emergency?

We’re open 24 hours, every day. Call 615-258-9977 and we’ll give you a real appointment window. Same-day visits are often possible, and if a full repair can’t be done in one visit, we tarp and seal the area. See emergency roof repair.

How much does a new roof cost?

On average, a full asphalt shingle replacement on a typical Murfreesboro home runs about $12,000 to $16,000. Smaller, simpler roofs land lower, and larger, steeper or premium-material roofs land higher. The number that matters is the one on your free written quote. See our roof replacement cost guide.

Warranty

What warranty comes with a new roof?

Two warranties: the manufacturer’s material warranty on GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, TAMKO or Malarkey products, and our lifetime workmanship warranty on the installation for as long as you own your home. See our roofing warranty.

Does the workmanship warranty cost extra?

No. It comes standard on every roof we install, whether you pay up front or finance.

What does the workmanship warranty cover?

Problems caused by how we installed your roof. If it’s our workmanship, we fix it at no cost to you. The manufacturer separately covers defects in the materials.

Is storm damage covered by the warranty?

No. New storm damage is a separate event that goes through your homeowners insurance. Our workmanship warranty covers the installation, not the weather.

Do you use your own crews or subcontractors?

Our own crews, never subcontractors. The people on your roof are Roof Troops employees we’re responsible for.

Home Guard Plan

What is the Home Guard Plan?

One visit a year where our own crew cleans your gutters, flushes your downspouts, inspects your whole roof, reseals pipe boots, touches up sealant, and sends you a dated photo report. See the Home Guard Plan.

How much does the Home Guard Plan cost?

$249 per year for a single-story home and $349 per year for a two-story home. Steep roofs, tile and slate roofs, and three-story homes are quoted individually.

Do I have to join the plan to get a free inspection?

No. Our roof inspections are free for anyone, plan or no plan.

When do you come out each year?

Usually late fall, after most leaves have dropped, so your gutters are clear before winter. Everything happens on that one yearly visit, and we call you when the next one is due.

What happens if you find a problem during a plan visit?

We take photos, explain what we found, and give you a written quote. Nothing beyond the plan work gets done without your OK. Plan members get member pricing on approved repairs and free priority scheduling after storms.

Can I cancel the plan?

You can cancel anytime. Plan fees already paid are not refunded.
